Beach Sinkhole:

On April 16, 2025 the Village DPW worked on the beach and found that there was no break in the 36" pipe that drains to the lake at the beach. Excavation around the drain indicated that the pipe was in good condition and there didn't appear to be any breaks or compromised areas. A lot of broken concrete and cobblestone was found where the sinkhole had been. The ground around the concrete and cobblestone was not compacted so as the ground got saturated and groundwater drained toward the lake, the groundwater carried the loose soil around the concrete and cobblestone away creating the sinkhole. The DPW pulled much of the broken concrete and cobblestone out, backfilled with soil and top dressed and seeded the area. The DPW believes that this should prevent any more sinkholes in the area.
